Two weeks ago, students from the Design for Interactive Media Lab left campus to learn about how new communities of practice are taking shape in local makerspaces. The team at FAZ Makerspace welcomed us and promptly gave us a tour around the space. Katarine Inis and Camila Alves, lead designers at Guilda, guided the students around a fully immersive maker experience. Students learned about strategies, tools and techniques for digital prototyping: 3d printing, laser cutting, cnc and micro controllers. After the tour, we gathered for a discussion regarding the creative potentials and challenges of digital prototyping.
